Pizza Photography

Shooting Pizza today... All outlined (cutout) shots. Notice the gray cards next to the pizza? That's for color balance. Nothing really exciting here, just the bread and butter of the industry. We shot 3 pizzas, five sandwiches, a garlic bread shot and two other non-food shots. Pretty full day.







I'm blowing off tomorrow to ride my motorcycle to Richmond VA to watch (and photograph) my kid play some more Lacrosse. I'll show you some of the pictures, maybe on Monday. :+)

    Nice dimension on the pizza shot. I always have trouble with the large items.

    I chickened out on riding my motorcycle down to Va. Too much rain in the forecast.

    I think that the trouble that most photographers have when shooting large items or large sets, is that there are so many details that you can't possible take care of all of them.

    I had four lights and seven mirrors lighting that one pizza, where as most photographers would have used one,maybe two lights and no mirrors on that shot.

    Break the image area down into small sections and light each section the best you can.

    If there is a large area of similar tonality, I like to create what I call "tonal undulation". On Pizza, I like to skim several mirrors along the crust, alternating lit and unlit areas around the whole circumference of the pie. If you like my pizza lighting, that's why...
